Evolution: Brand cannot save bad software, thank God

IE has been chasing its tail for a while but nothing could prepare me for the terrible experience of IE7.  How about turning a simple web browser into a new user experience that requires a fair amount of re-learning from the user.  Think iPod for the attempt at simplicity, except you cannot get the TrackWheel to work.  Try reorganising your favourites for a laugh.  Or try the Add-ons library in the MSN marketplace and see whether find a useful add-on fast.  Good luck.

The good news is that even a great brand like Microsoft cannot save a real dog.  Like Intelligent Design, which is looking shakier with each scientific advance, IE is steadily retreating in the wake of Firefox's superior evolutionary powers.

IT Wire reports that Firefox has been growing market share remarkably fast, up to 25% in France and to a parity position in a number of Eastern European countries.  Amazingly only one third of IE users in this survey have upgraded to IE7...

Allow me a little quote from the Book of Mozilla to close off this sectarian post:

  • And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

upgrade to vista buddy.
IE7 is made for Vista,
on XP i prefer using Maxthon, or Flock.

And since Vista sucks at least as much as IE 7 does, you are better off remaining on XP and going for a real browser like FF.

That being said, I am not sure IE 7 will just die or that MSFT will just allow the browser to escape its control... Perhaps an acquisition of something that works? Ah! But that would compel them to seriously decouple their OS from the browser... Life online is tough for the boys from Redmond guys these days.

I was wondering, IE was a brand, a well known brand but it cannot compete with FIREFOX raising brand, I cannot disagree...

is there ever a chance than brands like this could REVIVE itself?

How do you save a brand?
